Engineering ofTransition–Metal Oxides for Lithium-Ion Batteries

报告摘要:Electrochemicalenergy storage and conversion devices such as lithium-ion batteries andsupercapacitors have been widely used in a range of devices including portableelectronic devices and electric vehicles due to their high energy and powerdensity. The current commercially applied electrode materials e.g. graphitewith theoretical capacity of 372 mAh g–1 strongly limit the further developmentof energy storage devices. The interest in exploring new electrode materialshas been drastically increasing due to the surging demands for clean energy. Towell address the challenges, herein we propose the Nanoscale Engineering ofTransition–Metal Oxides for Boosting Energy Storage. By applying differentstrategies such as in-situ carbonization, combining conductive agent, anddevelopment of new electrode materials etc., we successfully prepared nanoscaleheterostructured electrode materials with reduced size, large surfaces area,enhanced electronic conductivity, structural stability, fast electron and iontransport, which enable the superior electrochemical performances in terms ofhigh capacity, long cycling lifespan, and high rate endurability. Thestrategies discussed in the talk not only provide promising electrode materialsfor energy storage, but also offer opportunities in being applied for thepreparation of a variety of novel heterostructured for practical applications.

个人简介:Dr. Hongmei Luo is anassociate professor at Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering, USA.  She received her PhD degree in ChemicalEngineering from Tulane University in 2006.Following a postdoctoral research associate in Los Alamos National Laboratory,she joined New Mexico State University (NMSU) as an assistant professor inChemical Engineering in August 2009. She is the Principal Investigator of theThin Films and Nanomaterials Research Group at NMSU. Her group researchinterests lie in the area of nanostructured materials for photovoltaic,lithium-ion battery, and catalysts; and functional epitaxial oxide and nitridethin films for ferromagnetic, multiferroic, and transparent conductors. She hasauthored and co-authored 136 refereed journal articles and H-index = 19.
